GradSWE Outreach Update--NanoSTRuCT
Fridays | 1:00- 3 PM | Booker T. Washington Elementary School
Are you interested in STEM outreach and looking for a focused opportunity to engage with the community? Nanoscale Science and Technology Resources for Community Teaching (NanoSTRuCT) is a graduate student organized STEM outreach project partnering with Booker T. Washington (BTW) STEM Academy. In partnership with the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST), NanoSTRuCT delivers STEM and nanotechnology themed mini-lessons and hands-on activities to the entire 3rd grade.
We have 4 weekly visits planned for this fall, on Fridays (11/13/2015, 11/20/2015,12/4/2015, and 12/11/2015) from 1:45-3:00PM. Each weekly theme will explore an area of concentration in engineering with two activities. Each volunteer does not have to attend each session. Graduate students will share one activity with small groups of third graders from BTW in two rotations.
The kickoff for this event is THIS FRIDAY! Get excited and bring a lot of energy!!! We will be meeting at 1:00 pm at MNTL atrium where we will briefly go over the activities and carpool to Booker T. Washington. We need to have all activities set up by1:45pm. The first week will have a mechanical/aerospace focus. The two activities will be making a CD Hovercraft and Paper Airplanes. The modules for each of the activities are attached.
The more volunteers the better, so feel free to bring friends along! YOU MUST EITHER WATCH THE TRAINING VIDEO OR READ THROUGH THE FALL TRAINING POWER POINT, both are in the box folder below.
