7th Level Engineering: A Mastery vs Performance Mindset Luncheon
Wednesday, February 10th | Noon - 1PM| Deere Pavilion, 2005 MEL
Engineers stuck in a chaotic, never ending problem solving performance mindset (which often results in total burnout) should take some cues from professional athletes such as world-class Olympians, who use a mastery mindset to perform at their best. While both approaches end in achieving goals, one approach leaves a person exhausted and stressed, while the other results in a person maintaining control and balance in their life and career. Anna Oldani, GradSWE Director and Angeli Gamez, weSTEM Conference Director, will go over a session from the we15 conference, which examines both approaches and explores why the mastery approach is ultimately superior to the performance mindset. Please reserve your spot for lunch here!

Outreach Opportunity: NanoSTRuCT is back!
Friday February 12th | 1-2:30PM |Booker T. Washington Elementary
Are you looking to expand your educational and outreach impact? Nanoscale Science and Technology Resources for Community Teaching (NanoSTRuCT) is a graduate student organized STEM outreach project partnering with Booker T. Washington Elementary (BTW) STEM Academy. In partnership with the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST), NanoSTRuCT delivers STEM and nanotechnology themed mini-lessons and hands-on activities to the entire 3rd grade at BTW.
We have 4 weekly visits planned for this spring on Fridays (2/12/2016, 2/19/2016,2/26/16 and 3/4/16) from 1:30-3:00PM. Each weekly theme will explore an area of nanotechnology. Graduate students will share one activity with small groups of third graders from BTW in four rotations. We have designed individual activity pamphlets for each student to help keep the students engaged. All sessions at BTW are not required and volunteers can choose which Friday session(s) to attend.
To express interest, please sign up at the linked form.
