What does Diversity do?
SWE Illinois has a passionate commitment to diversity. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all backgrounds, including international students, male students, and non-engineering students. The recruitment and diversity committee hosts multiple diversity-based events each year, including the very popular International Taste of SWE event and the running Get Educated series, a discussion-based event aiming to educate the SWE members about related ideas to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Diversity committee also frequently partners with HeForSWE and other organizations to further high light diversity in SWE and at Illinois!
We are always looking for more volunteers to help us with these events! If you would like to join the Diversity Committee or volunteer for these events, please email Hana Lee at sohyunl4@illinois.edu.

Chairs Roles:
Get-Educated Chairs: Develop and host research-based events to help educate the SWE community on relevant topics and collaborate with other organizations to host events
Diversity Chairs: Host events celebrating Diversity in SWE and at UIUC (ex: holidays, SWE Fashion Show, Diversity Dinner, and more!)
Communications Chair: Highlight diversity in SWE by creating a diversity slide to present at monthly GMs, writing blog posts for the SWE website, and more!
HeForSWE Chair: Attends weekly HeForSWE planning meetings and helps to connect SWE and HeForSWE as a part of the HeForSWE planning team, facilitating greater HeForSWE events!
Diversity Advisors: Attends other committee meetings to advise on ways to increase focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in events across SWE committees
